Preventive Cardiology Program

The Preventive Cardiology Program evaluates and treats primary and secondary lipid and lipoprotein disorders using dietary, pharmacologic and surgical therapies in conjunction with lifestyle changes. The emphasis is on the prevention and retardation of atherosclerosis in symptomatic and asymptomatic patients with hyperbetalipoproteinemia and hypoalphaliproteinemia of lipid metabolism such as xanthomatosis.

The program plays a major role in Loyola's commitment to preventive cardiology and sees a constant flow of referrals from cardiologists and other physicians dealing with atherosclerosis. Near relatives of subjects with overt disease are screened, assessed and managed if they have lipoprotein disorder.
