Visitor Guidelines for the Duration of the 2009-2010 Flu Season

In light of the ongoing H1N1 novel influenza A (“swine flu”) pandemic, Loyola University Health System has implemented new visitor guidelines. These restrictions are designed to minimize the risk of spreading influenza within the health system, and protect our patients, staff and their families.

  1. During the 2009-2010 influenza season (ongoing until further notice), visitors will be limited to those age 18 years and older (exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis for special circumstances).
  2. Adult visitors should be limited to those necessary for the patient’s emotional well-being and care, and no more than 2 visitors per patient will be allowed in the room at one time.
  3. Visitors with respiratory symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose) are not permitted on patient floors and may be asked to leave the hospital. Again, exceptions may be made under special circumstances.
  4. Family members and visitors of patients who are hospitalized with suspected or confirmed influenza should wear surgical masks when visiting, be instructed to wash their hands upon entering and leaving the patient's room and be asked to limit their movements within the hospital.
