The pharmacy provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care services for patients visiting the Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center.
Located on the first floor of the facility across from Clinic B, the pharmacy is staffed by specialized oncology pharmacists and technicians.
The oncology pharmacists work closely with nurses, physicians and other health-care professionals to ensure the safe and effective delivery of life-saving chemotherapy. The pharmacy staff also plays an active role in the education of other health-care staff and patients on the use of medications for the treatment of cancer.
All orders for chemotherapy are carefully reviewed and verified. Doses of chemotherapy are prepared by expert pharmacists and technicians trained in the handling of these types of medications. Before chemotherapy is administered to a patient, it will pass through at least three separate checkpoints for correctness and accuracy.
Patients may have prescriptions filled for cancer care medications at the outpatient window. The pharmacy specializes in unusual or hard-to-find medications such as some pain medicines, antinausea drugs, chemotherapy taken by mouth and home-administered injected drugs. We accept some major insurance plans as well as cash, check or credit cards for payment.
Other pharmaceutical care services offered to patients and staff at the Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center include drug interaction screening, drug-use monitoring, and collaboration with medical and nursing staff in clinical research programs.
