In the spirit of our Catholic Jesuit tradition, Loyola University Health System is committed to providing health-care services to all patients based on medical necessity.
For patients who require financial assistance or who are experiencing temporary financial hardship, Loyola offers several payment options, including charity or free care.
Patients without insurance are responsible for the payment of their bill. They will receive a 40 percent discount on the cost of actual charges. Bills will show the discount and adjusted balance due. Services such as cosmetic procedures, hearing aids and eye care that normally are not covered by insurance already are priced at package rates with no additional discount. All payments are expected at the time of service.
Patients with financial hardship may be eligible for a short-term installment payment plan.
For physician billing, Loyola will accept installment payments for a period of up to 12 months. The minimum payment is $25 per month. Patients will need to call Patient Financial Assistance to set up this arrangement at (800) 424-6307.
For hospital/clinic billing, Loyola will accept installment payments for a period of up to 24 months. The minimum payment is $50 per month. Patients will need to call Patient Financial Assistance to set up this arrangement at (800) 424-4840.
Free care is given to patients who earn 200 percent or less of Federal Poverty Guidelines.
Those who earn more than 200 percent of the federal guidelines may be eligible for a partial discount that ranges between 50 percent and 75 percent of the charges. Both the household adjusted annual gross income and the dollar amount of the account balance are taken into consideration. If the amount due is 50 percent or more than a patient’s documented annual income, 100 percent of the bill is discounted.
The discounted program is based on the current federal poverty guidelines for your family size compared to your household adjusted annual gross income. For example:
When patients qualify for charity care or financial assistance, they will receive the applicable discount for six months. If care continues following the initial six-month period, patients’ financial situations are reassessed and updated information must be provided.
Financial counselors are available to work with patients in completing a financial evaluation to determine what assistance is available. This includes assessing eligibility for Medicaid or Medicare.
Patients may contact either group to work with a financial counselor and determine financial assistance. Once calculated and approved, the discount will be applied to all Loyola bills.
