Partner: The Campaign for the Future of Loyola has, to date, reached $306,754,189.17 in pledged support. That number represents gifts from thousands of donors both to the university and to the health system, in dollar amounts of every size, and from first-time donors as well as Loyola's most ardent supporters. We on the health system campus are especially proud that Stritch School of Medicine (Stritch) and Marcella Niehoff (Niehoff) School of Nursing alumni participation rates lead all Loyola schools and colleges in giving back to their schools, with Stritch in first place, Niehoff’s graduate school of nursing in second, and Niehoff’s undergraduate program ranking third.
Gifts received by Stritch, Niehoff and the Loyola University Medical Center demonstrate our donors significant commitments to furthering Catholic, Jesuit ideals in patient care, research, and the education of future medical and nursing professionals. The funds will go toward a spectrum of initiatives, including: medical and nursing scholarship support for promising young health professionals; a new School of Nursing building, which will help expand the number of highly trained nurses in Illinois; a new research and education facility, which will help propel Loyola into the top tier of academic, medical research institutions; and inspiring advances in patient care that will bring hope and healing to those who suffer.
For instance, a recent unrestricted anonymous $5 million gift will be coupled with several other leadership gifts made earlier in the campaign to create an inpatient oncology floor in the hospital. The floor will be designed with three unique but related wings dedicated to medical oncology, surgical oncology and bone marrow transplantation. The dedicated floor will allow LUHS to better meet the on-going and growing needs of patients and their families.
Individually, gifts like these can be truly transformative — and especially notable considering the country’s current economic downtown. Collectively, the many gifts that make up the $300 million milestone are inspiring in the special commitment they represent from alumni and friends to the work and mission of this great institution.
